About this Design
This composition prioritizes acoustic performance and cinematic atmosphere through sculpted geometry and controlled luminance. The room’s defining element is the continuous curved plane of vertical acoustic slats that wrap the perimeter; each slat is a slightly rounded timber composite with an absorptive textile face. Narrow warm LED channels recessed behind the slats create vertical ribbons of light that read as both architectural joints and diffused backlight, accentuating the curvature while softening direct sightlines to the walls — a strategy that improves perceived depth without increasing glare.
Three staggered rows of oversized, plush recliners are arranged on stepped risers with low-profile edges. The risers are veneered in medium-dark oak planks with realistic grain and a low-sheen finish; the wood’s anisotropic reflectance catches the layered lighting, producing faint specular highlights and believable light spill from cove and spot fixtures. Slim profile step lights are inset into the riser noses and into select slat edges; their cool-neutral intensity delineates circulation paths and the seating planes without overpowering the warm cove glow. Floating side shelves finished in matte walnut project from the slatted wall as discreet volumes; a few bottles and minimalist props provide human scale and punctuate negative space.
Ceiling treatment and materials emphasize acoustic control: a perforated acoustic ceiling with a micro-textured matte finish reduces hard reflections while allowing integrated recessed cove channels to wash the dome in warm color temperature. Targeted neutral spotlights above each seating row offer soft, focused modeling on the upholstery and shelving, creating gradual shadow falloff and soft cast shadows under the armrests. The overall palette — charcoal textured walls, deep leather or fabric seating, medium-dark wood floor — cultivates a cinematic, intimate mood. Light hierarchy is deliberate: dominant warm cove backlight sculpts the room, secondary neutral spots model objects, and tertiary edge and step lighting provides functional legibility. Material honesty and careful control of bloom and light spill keep the scene refined and tactile, suited to an upscale private theater where acoustics and atmosphere are inseparable.
