About this Design
This render translates Mediterranean materiality into a restrained, contemporary living room where tectonics and light do the design work. A polished concrete slab—subtle mottling, fine aggregate visible beneath a soft sheen—anchors the composition, its cool grey reflecting the neutral morning daylight streaming through a tall window dressed in sheer curtains. The window’s north-leaning light reads clean and neutral, softening as it passes the voile and bathing the room in a diffuse glow that emphasizes surface texture rather than color saturation.
The focal wall deploys textured stone in irregular ashlar to register Mediterranean provenance without literalism. Two recessed shelving bays interrupt the stonework with floating wooden shelves; integrated cove LEDs deliver warm, low-CRI-appropriate uplighting that grazes the rough stone face and casts delicate shadows from the ceramic vessels and potted greenery. A recessed fireplace niche—deep, squared and plastered dark—contains a gentle flame and stacked firewood, its warm ember tones reinforcing the shelf lighting and creating a counterpoint to the daylight’s coolness. A sunburst mirror mounted on the stone wall reads as an artisanal accent, the radial wood slats catching profile track lights and throwing filigreed shadow patterns onto the adjacent plaster.
Spatially, built-in bench seating is resolved in continuous white plaster with integrated cushions in neutral textiles; the seat’s plinth aligns with the hearth datum, maintaining a horizontal language that grounds the composition. Wooden round stools—tactile, hand-turned—sit on a low-pile natural rug, their warm grain tempering the floor’s coolness. A low coffee table with a dark top and slender brass frame provides a reflective plane that captures both daylight and the warm accents overhead.
Above, a warm wood lattice ceiling with exposed beams introduces biophilic rhythm and soft shadowing. Track, profile, and concealed cove fixtures are layered deliberately: neutral-balanced daylight from the window establishes base illumination; warm track fixtures provide accent hits on the stone and art; profile lights define the bench and shelf; cove lighting imparts a continuous wash that reads as an ambient secondary source. Potted plants and white ceramic bowls on the floating shelf offer a restrained vignette, their matte glazes and foliage silhouettes registering when struck by the different light temperatures. The overall mood is bright and airy yet tactile and intimate—material honesty and calibrated lighting combine to create a quietly sophisticated Mediterranean interior that favors texture, proportion, and warmth over ornament.
